You did it! You made it through an exhausting 11 months and the light at the end of the tunnel has appeared! Now, only a formal dinner, a friendsmas, a charity, a work thing, four family things, five parties and a million pictures to be taken before the end of the year. With Cameras going non-stop between now and January, here’s a few tips for keeping your hair looking its best.

1. Condition frequently
In the winter months, Michigan gets DRY. Just as the amount of lotion you put on your knuckles changes this time of year, the amount of conditioner you use should also be adjusted to keep your scalp and hair hydrated. Condition up to every day in this weather. If you’re the kind of person able to go a few days between shampoos, try co-washing with conditioner (using conditioner to massage and cleanse the scalp) to keep your scalp and hair feeling healthy and hydrated. I recommend Amika’s Hydro Rush system for anyone feeling a little dry.

2. Find your signature holiday style
You don’t have to show up to every event having done something different with your hair. Take some of that stress off of yourself and find one style that’s quick and easy for you to do. Find a couple of cute holiday themed hair accessories and voilà! You’ve got a cute, signature holiday style that will look good in every photo! Try a couple of these styles that I found on youtube:
3. Scarf Hair/Hat Hair hacks
You figured out your signature holiday look, spent half an hour doing your hair and makeup for a white elephant exchange, you reach into the front closet and pull out your coat, mittens and… hat. Instead of succumbing to the inevitable static-y hat hair, try a satin-lined beanie. You can find them everywhere from Wal-Mart to Etsy, so it’s easy to find one that fits your personal style. These hats keep you warm, but the low-friction lining keeps your ‘do intact. A quick swipe of a dryer sheet over a wool scarf also drastically reduces static and friction, helping you survive the cold with your hair unscathed.

4. Holiday Gift-Giving
We all have that one person on our list: you don’t know them super well. You’ve met them once or twice. They are going to be at the holiday get-together and you should get them a gift, but you don’t know anything about them. I am someone who has used this hack too many years in a row and let me tell you: a gift set of hair/shaving/skin products will be used. Nice personal care items are a splurge that not everyone takes for themselves, and having an excuse to pamper yourself is something anyone can use. Tell your hairdresser anything you can remember about the hair of the person you’re buying for and use their advice to hand-pick items they’ll love.
Happy happy holidays, friends! Hope every pic you take is STUNNING.
